I-70 surveys show growth of car-pooling

VAIL, Colo.—A mid-winter survey of skiers and snowboarders at the three Dinosaur parking lots in Morrison has yielded a "goldmine of information" for resorts and stakeholders along the I-70 corridor, with detailed data on car-pooling patterns, which people might be induced to ride public transit to resorts and whether skiers and snowboarders might be willing to pay a toll for an extra lane of traffic on the busy corridor.

Aspen High School rated #1 in Colorado by U.S. News and World Report

ASPEN, Colo.—Aspen High School is tops in the state, according to a just released survey by U.S. News & World Report. Ranked 59th nationally, Aspen is also the only Colorado school to land in the top 100.

AMFS and Country Day School finalize partnership; embark on $60 million redevelopment

AMFS and Aspen County Day School are embarking on a $60 million redevelopment of the shared 23-acre campus they have both occupied for decades along Castle Creek Road.
ASPEN, Colo.—The Aspen Music Festival and School and Aspen County Day School have signed the final business agreement for the two institutions to redevelop and share the 23-acre campus they have both occupied for decades along Castle Creek Road according to a recent press release.

AVSC raises $5 million, launches capital campaign

AVSC has launched a capital campaign that will establish the $7.5 million Bob Beattie Perpetual Endowment Fund, in honor of the legendary coach and ski racing icon, and provide the resources to construct several new training sites. Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club proudly announced that it has raised $5 million for the Securing Our Future Campaign, one-third of the Club’s $15 million capital fundraising goal. The announcement came at AVSC’s 75th Anniversary Celebration held Saturday night at Bumps Restaurant. The campaign will establish the $7.5 million Bob Beattie Perpetual Endowment Fund, in honor of the legendary coach and ski racing icon, and provide the resources to construct several new training sites.

ASPEN, Colo.—They have become iconic, some of the most photographed images from the Aspen/Snowmass ski areas. Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Jerry Garcia and even Snoopy honored with signs, photographs, art work and memorabilia including bras, bongs, wind chimes and a drum.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo.—A semi-secret unsolicited proposal for I-70 improvements from a private company is garnering more and more attention these days, as state, local and federal officials come to grips with the fact that there just isn't going to be much public money available for critical infrastructure needs.

SNOWMASS, Colo.—Was this a historic moment: the first flash mob on record for Aspen/Snowmass? On Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm, the Snowmass Base Village Pavilion was abuzz with last-run skiers descending, parents meeting up with kids after ski school, and families strolling around, looking for that late-afternoon snack.

Adopt-a-Cause campaign raised $11,600 for local charities

BROOMFIELD, Colo.—The collective efforts of employees in the Aspen Sports stores collaborating on the 14th annual Adopt-A-Cause holiday fundraising program blew the doors off their effort this year with a huge increase in donations from Aspen shoppers−raising $11,247 compared to $2,078 last year−for Challenge Aspen, a local organization that provides ski opportunities for disabled skiers at Aspen/Snowmass resorts.

VAIL, Colo.—Dick Over and Earl Clark tell an old war story well. It‘s a story rooted in the mountains south of Vail and it is fundamental to the American ski industry. And it’s good they have historians and an audience to carry the narrative forward; most of their old comrades are gone.
