Winter classical music begins in earnest this weekend with a recital of chamber music, featuring
Linda Shea, an established and well-respected clarinetist from the Front Range who has appeared with every orchestra between Colorado Springs and Cheyenne. She is teaming up with local pianist Andrew Todd for a program that includes the Poulenc Clarinet Sonata, Schumann's
Fantasiestücke, op. 73, and Gershwin's Three Preludes transcribed for clarinet and piano. Anyone familiar with the opening of
Rhapsody in Blue (and if you have been on a United flight in the last 15 years, you are) will be predisposed to hearing the clarinet, an inherently jazz instrument, take on the preludes. Mr. Todd will also be performing a set of charming variations by Mozart on that ubiquitous childhood song, "Twinkle, twinkle, little star".
Now in its eighth year,
Music in the West End, the concert series sponsored by the local Episcopal Church, is the longest running, currently active community concert series in the Valley. The recently renovated and acoustically superior sanctuary is simply the best venue in town to enjoy an intimate evening of music. Excellent receptions usually follow the concert. All
Music in the West End programs are one hour with no intermission.
