SNOWMASS, Colo.—Was this a historic moment—the first flash mob on record for Aspen/Snowmass? On Monday afternoon at 3:30 pm, the Snowmass Base Village Pavilion was abuzz with last-run skiers descending, parents meeting up with kids after ski school, and families strolling around, looking for that late-afternoon snack.
Suddenly, a swarm of approximately 70 red-coated ski school pros converged on “center ice” and began a dance and shout-out. Spectators converged and applauded Snowmass’ first flash mob, and then it was over.
The happening was put on by the ski pros who work out of the childrens’ center in The Treehouse. Several practices had taken place in the last week to prepare for the presentation.
Snowmass has been maxed out for the last few days with skiing guests. The party continues tomorrow, with the wearing of beads all day long on the hill, and the annual Mardi Gras parade of floats and bead-throwing revelers through the Snowmass Mall at 4 p.m.
